Privacy Policy

The Short Version

This site collects your email address if you sign up for The Punch List (our monthly email). It uses Google Analytics to understand how people use the site. It uses cookies to make things work properly. That’s about it. I don’t sell your data, I don’t share it with anyone who’s going to spam you, and I don’t do anything sketchy with it.

Information You Give Me Directly

Email address. If you sign up for The Punch List (the monthly email), I collect your email address through MailerLite, which is the email platform I use to send it. That’s the only personal information I ask for.

Messages you send. If you email me or use a contact form, I receive whatever information you include in that message.

Information Collected Automatically

Analytics data. This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand things like how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found the site. GA4 collects data such as your approximate location (city level, not your address), device type, browser, pages visited, and time spent on the site. Google Analytics does not collect your name or email address through its tracking.

Cookies. This site uses cookies. Some are necessary for the site to function. Others are used by Google Analytics to track usage patterns. Your browser can be set to block cookies if you prefer, though some site features may not work properly without them.

Server logs. Like virtually every website on the internet, the server that hosts this site automatically logs basic information about visits, including IP addresses, browser type, and pages requested. This is standard web hosting functionality provided by WP Engine.

How I Use Your Information

Email addresses are used to send you The Punch List and nothing else. I don’t send promotional emails for other products or services. I don’t share your email with other companies. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.

Analytics data is used to understand which content is useful, how people find the site, and where I should focus my efforts. I use this data in aggregate to improve the site. I don’t use it to identify or target individual visitors.

Who Has Access to Your Data

MailerLite processes and stores email addresses for The Punch List. Their privacy policy is available at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Google Analytics processes analytics data. Google’s privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

WP Engine hosts this website and processes server logs as part of standard hosting operations. Their privacy policy is available at wpengine.com/legal/privacy.

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Your Rights

Unsubscribe from email. Every email from The Punch List includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you’re off the list. No guilt trip, no “are you sure?” sequence.

Request your data. You can email me at [email protected] to ask what data I have about you.

Request deletion. You can email me at [email protected] to ask me to delete your data. I’ll do it promptly.

Opt out of analytics. You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or use your browser’s cookie settings to block analytics tracking.

Data Retention

Email addresses are kept for as long as you remain subscribed to The Punch List. When you unsubscribe, your email is removed from the active list per MailerLite’s standard data handling practices.

Server logs are retained according to WP Engine’s standard hosting practices.

Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact me at [email protected] and I will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

If I make significant changes to this privacy policy, I’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top. For material changes that affect how your data is used, I’ll note it in The Punch List email.
